Breakfast in Milwaukee

We went to visit Aunt Ann in Milwaukee this morning and had the most fabulous pancakes. Yuki made a dive for the pancakes but Dr Ann stopped her from getting syrup all over her just in time.

Enough!

This is how she tells us she's had enough. She even gives us a warning which we catch on... sometimes. If we don't catch on, then she gives us another warning saying "come on!", then she really lets us know.

Rattle and Hum

She has a few new tricks. Here is one: scratching her forehead and singing karaoke. Sometimes she misses the forehead and the "microphone" ends up in her mouth, which, she says, is ok, since the mission in her life these days is to see what everything feels like in her mouth.

Conversation

Yuki and I had a conversation today about this thing that is always in her face. It is rectangular with something that looks like an eye, except sometimes it makes clicking noises and bright light comes on. She says she doesn't mind it too much, but the light is really annoying. We came to a compromise that we will use as much natural light as we can.

She also told me how much she enjoyed talking with Andrew yesterday. He's whole two months older than she is and very handsome. He even knows how to roll over!

Who's toes?

Which ones are just right for Goldilocks?

Left hand

Yuki has discovered her left hand and agrees with us that it is the most beautiful left hand anyone has ever seen. Some have contemplated her future as a concert pianist, others a surgeon. Only time will tell.

Today she is sporting her tomato hat that I made before we knew she was coming (no, it's not strawberry!!), getting ready for the winter, of course. Fits like a... hat.

Yom Kippur?

We celebrated Yom Kippur with some friends from IceCube today. Maybe I should put that in quotes. HL and AP invited us all for a big delicious feast and we spent the whole afternoon atoning our sins.

Dr. CC

We had a visiter the last few days. She is on her way from Seattle to Boston and Madison happens to be conveniently located on the way. We were really happy to have her here and were glad she could squeeze in a visit between finishing her PhD, climbing in the Tetons, cycling, and hiking in the Adirondacks :) Good luck in Boston!

Our little bug

Maybe she likes this future better. Entomology.

Papa is back.

Papa is back home and we had a really nice day out and about. We stumbled on a nice little jazz performance in a cafe. Yuki seems really happy to have him home too.

Winter is coming

Autumn is short here and it got down to 50's last night. I thought I should check our inventory of hand-me down clothes. She's all set with this Patagonia performance wear.

:)

Did we mention how cute she is?

Future Physicist

I think this is the last time she fits into this shirt. She seems more resigned to her possible future...

Hip Hop

Or maybe it's Jazz. In any case she's adding a new dance to her repertoire. She's still got a little work to do in matching her genre: Norah Jones is on at the moment.

Mobile

One of the things Oma inspired us to do is to really pay attention to what Yuki is telling us she needs. First was the grabbing toy I wrote about few days ago . Now she looks and looks so I made her an origami mobile. She seems fascinated by it. By the way, she is starting to smile back and almost laugh. The sleepless nights and endless diapers, they're so worth it! She's learned that if she kicks hard enough she can shake the whole crib and make the mobile move.

Yuki's Rose

While Oma was here, she revived our garden for us. She found several roses out in front, and deemed this one Yuki's. Now that it gets a lot of sun it is in full bloom. Thanks Oma!

Monday Brunch

After a couple of action-packed weeks and lots of fun, Grandma Oma has gone back to Germany. We decided to do our brunch after dropping her off and decided to try a place that LWR suggested: Lazy Jane's. It turns out it most places were closed for Labor Day. There we ran into WW and his girlfriend, on their way to the airport. What a coincidence.

Oma asked about the origin of Labor Day. I have no idea. Anyone?

Japanese Bath

Ok, we've seen how Papa gives a bath. How does mama give it? By singing in Japanese, or course. And she was caught on tape...

Taste of Madison

This is Yuki's introduction to street food. Well, maybe just the smell of it for her. It was probably more of an experience for Grandma Oma.
