Snow and mountains

We spent a few hours up on the mountain. There were people skiing and children sledding. Some were on snow shoes. It is so gorgeous up there! This year, Yuki is sleeping held at Papa's chest. Next year, we will be sledding for sure and she will be on the fastest sled!
Is she cute or what?

Cakes, Chocolate, and Rabbit

26th is the day relatives and friends visit each other in Germany. Oma Uschi had one of her famous tea parties today. This photo was taken after we have all had our fourth slice of cake. Missing from the photo are Papa (because he's embarrassed he had five slices of cake) and Mr. Bunny Rabbit who was out looking for some carrots.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to everyone! Here is Yuki with Oma, in her best, courtesy of Baba. Ok, white tights would have completed the look, but we had to with the stripes. For complete photos, click here.
No more pictures!

Here is Yuki protesting the idea of another photo of classic baby pose. She's had enough paparazzi! She is however very happy about the rubber ducky. Oma got this one for her and this one actually floats! The little one mama and papa got her didn't do so well in the water.
Yum, Karotten!

We have started on solids! There are many different recommendations, but we've decided to start with carrots. In Japan, I'm told babies start with rice, in the U.S., many start with rice cereal, French babies start with vegetables, and German babies start with carrots. Lots of carrots! Yuki did great! She started with what's on mama's fingers, then slurped down a few spoonfuls in no time. One caveat for carrots: they make quite a mess! Click here for more photos.

Weihnachtsmarkt in Hattingen 2
Here is the center of it all in the Hattingen Weihnachtsmarkt. The windows behind us act as advents and open daily with a fanfare with the local bands and choirs.
Weihnachtsmarkt in Hattingen
You saw the hotdog stand in New York, now this is the real deal. Wursts, crepes, waffles, Glühwein... you name it.

Motherland Germany
Yuki makes a debut in Germany. We flew into Frankfurt and took a high-speed train up to Bochum to see Oma and Opa. I think she liked going upwards of 300 km/hr.

First teeth
Yuki's teeth are coming in. She has been gnawing and chewing for the last couple of months, and they're finally here! A few weeks ago, I googled for early teething photos and couldn't find any and I had no idea what this would look like. Well, here they are. I felt something sharp when she started chewing my hand yesterday and long behold. Friends tell me breastfeeding will never be the same again.

Mr. Giraffe
Yuki remains true to her zoo friends. Now that she is five months old she is catching up to their size though: here is Yuki today with Mr. Giraffe.
Here are photos from today and the post from July 17 when she was just 8 days old.

Play group

We had a play group meeting today. Yuki had lots of friends over and we had lots of fun. More photos can be found here. For whatever reason girls outnumber the boys by a lot in this group.

Snow Country

Yes, Madison is a snow country. Here is mama shoveling the driveway while Yuki is snuggled in her hooded sweater. So far we have more snow than we have had in the last eight years, and combined with the snow-rain-freezing temperatures-snow combination we had last week, it has been a treacherous snow year.
